An update from our CEO
Hello, my name is Steve Michaelson. I am the CEO of Kiss My Face. Kiss My Face represents more than just soap, shave crème or the various products that we sell. Our founders, Bob and Steve, were organic farmers. Kiss My Face was, and is, an extension of their values and way of living: natural, authentic, cruelty-free, fun—even a little "cheeky".
Last year we decided to write down our mission and values. As a small company, we were able to get everyone involved in this. Our purpose in doing this is to help us be true-to-ourselves as we grow. Here is how we described our mission:
Absorb this...at Kiss My Face we believe that nature creates the best ingredients. It's our mission to combine these natural and organic ingredients in body care products that are innovative and uniquely effective to make you look good and feel good from head to toe…and a few stops in between!
We also value being responsible to our communities and sustainable in our business practices. After all, good planets are tough to come by. You can read the fuller description of our values here.
A lot of our work aligns with these values. We try to get better each day and be honest with ourselves as we do this.
In 2013, there are a few ways you will see us living our values in the products that we bring you:
In May, you will begin to see improved shampoos, conditioners and styling products where you buy Kiss My Face. We're adding a splash of Argan oil to our entire hair care line. Argan oil is the Moroccan oil that has been used there for centuries for its unique moisturizing properties. It's high in antioxidants and we love its effect in our hair care products-we can't wait for you to try them!
In the spirit of our core values, we didn't add just any Argan oil. We chose to pay a little more for our Argan oil to support the U.C.F.A. women's cooperative in Morocco (the U.C.F.A. is the Union des Cooperatives des Femmes de l'Arganeraie, a union of 22 women's cooperatives). Their primary mission is to improve the working conditions of women in southern Morocco. And because the cooperative members' livelihoods depend on their local environments, they harvest and process in a sustainable manner.
We're always looking for better ingredients and better sources for our ingredients. Our and our customers' perceptions of ingredients evolve over time. So, we've added more all-mineral sun care items to our line, and we keep the ingredients as clean as we can. (Despite minerals being "natural," we don't describe those ingredients as organic. Minerals aren't farmed, so we don't think an all-mineral sun care product can, or should, fit the definition of organic).
It goes without saying that we want to clean and nourish your hair and skin as well as protect families from the sun's harmful rays. We love all natural products—and we love them even more when we can make them a little better for you.
To keep skin safe and hydrated we continue to come out with new sun care products. Another item with Hydresia, an all-natural moisturizer that is encapsulated safflower oil, is coming in 2013. And our Sun Spray Lotion SPF 30 Value Size is changing to an easier grip bottle to help you use just as much as you need (our Sun Spray Lotion is my favorite Kiss My Face product).
Right now, you can go to your favorite natural thinking retailer and find two new Moisturizers- Coconut and Pomegranate Acai. They're beautiful, easy to rub in moisturizers with very nice ingredients. Jane, who leads our Sales efforts, particularly loves the Coconut Moisturizer (she is nuts for anything coconut!—the new Coconut Moisture Hand Soap is her favorite Hand Soap as well).
And don't forget to look for our 3 pack bar soap—three of our smaller 4 ounce Pure Olive Oil Bar Soaps selling for about $6, and with very minimal packaging. In Toothpaste news- we're pleased to now offer astonishingly good tasting Pastes, to complement the Gels we've offered for years.
Lastly, 2013 is a great year to support the work of Seeds of Peace (there is a great 2 minute video that emotionally describes the outcomes they desire from their work). They teach leadership and conflict resolution skills to teenagers from areas of conflict (the Middle East; Pakistan/India; and other areas). We support them through our Peace Soap—a very nice Castile soap with endless uses. In 2012, we donated all of the profits from Peace Soap to Seeds of Peace.

Have a great 2013.
